History

About the rally

The first edition of Silk Way Rally was held in 2009. The race started from Kazan, crossed Tatarstan and Orenburg region, went to Kazakhstan across West Kazakshan and Mangystau regions, then entered Turkmenistan, covered the regions of Balkan and Ahal and finished in Ashgabat after 8 days of competition. The achievements of the last stage were not taken into account while processing final classification, so overall results were constituted by the time of 8 legs. Carlos Sainz (Spain) got his first win in car category on the international cross-country rally and therefore created himself a good basis for gaining a long-awaited victory on Dakar at the fourth attempt. The first prize of truck category was taken by two-time Dakar champion (2005 and 2009) Firdaus Kabirov from KAMAZ-master Team.
